The original wagon wheel had a harder biscuit, needed to survive handling (by the young eater: we older types are more restrained). The mini wagon wheel, on which the cartwheel is based, has a more palatable softer biscuit. It also combines the jam filling of one of the UK varieties of the wagon wheel with the original marshmallow. The original wagon wheel was a favourite of mine in the 1960s, then it disappeared. I next saw it in the UK in 2003. The introduction of the Arnotts mini wagon wheel, and then the cartwheel, is one of the great culinary achievements on the 21st century. The only problem with the Belmont cartwheels is that they seem to evaporate shortly after the packet is opened. I mean, how else could they disappear from my biscuit barrel withn 24 hours of opening the packet? This has happened every time after my Aldi shopping trips, so I doubt I am mistaken.
